Meet the Deltans

Meet Katie McQuay

Katie McQuay, the Southwestern Region Student Representative, is a senior at Oklahoma Baptist University studying English with a minor in Professional Writing and Editing. She is an Honors student and President of her school’s Sigma Tau Delta chapter. In her free time, she loves collecting and reading as many classic books as possible, with the works of Shakespeare and Dickens being some of her favorites.

  1. I chose to become an English Major because I’ve always loved books and their ability to impact the way others see the world.
  2. My favorite part of being an English Major is getting to be a part of a community of people who care about literature and can delve into it together.
  3. The last book I read was The General Epistle of St James by James.
  4. My favorite book is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
  5. A book character I identify with is Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing, William Shakespeare).
  6. The last book I bought was Orgullo y Prejuicio (Spanish translation of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen), but I have not yet read it.
  7. My favorite book to movie adaptation is The Hunger Games series.
  8. I’m more of a reader than a writer.
  9. My favorite style of writing is easy to read while still conveying deep meaning.
  10. My go-to children’s book is The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis.
  11. My favorite childhood memory is going to national parks with my family every summer.
  12. Growing up, I was sure I would be a daycare owner.
  13. My first job was a minimum wage worker at Taco Bueno.
  14. My dream job is teaching English and writing on the side.
  15. I like to spend my free time reading and attending family or church game and movie nights.
  16. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is London.
  17. The literary place I’d most like to visit is Narnia.
  18. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in The Swiss Alps.
  19. If I was stranded on a desert island, the three things I would bring with me are a Bible, a machete, and a lifestraw/water purifier of some kind (assuming “boat,” “plane,” and other means of escape are not acceptable answers).
  20. The one song I could listen to on repeat is I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys.
  21. The best gift I ever received was a bookcase that opens on hinges to a hidden room.
  22. The best gift I’ve ever given is a year of Disney+ for my family.
  23. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up Kraft mac and cheese.
  24. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be that massive Capitol buffet from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (I know it’s an image of the Capitol’s opulence, but still . . . ).
  25. The author (dead or alive) I’d most like to spend a day with is Mark Twain.
