Sigma Tau Delta is excited to announce its new and improved partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. In previous years our Service Project has focused on fundraising efforts, supporting the Imagination Library in their mission to put books in the hands of children. In the time of COVID, however, we understand that monetary contributions from chapters may be hindered by virtual learning and various pandemic-induced financial hardships. At the same time, it is as important now, if not more so, to continue ensuring that children have access to books. The new non-financial focus to our partnership with the Imagination Library consists of several prongs, the first of which is a brand new Imagination Library Internship initiative.
As the Imagination Library’s only national partner we are proud to embark on this new internship, available only to Sigma Tau Delta members. The intern will work with Dolly Parton’s nonprofit, The Dollywood Foundation, to assist with planning, communication, project management, and execution of their conference for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library local community partners, which will be held in June 2021. The spring internship is remote and runs from February 1 through May 31, 2021. As a part of the planning team the intern will support the team by being an extra set of hands, engaged in various work opportunities and experiences.
The internship will focus on project management and execution, with a heavy emphasis on writing and communication. All active Sigma Tau Delta undergraduate and graduate student members who are in good standing during the application period and members of chapters located within the 50 United States are eligible to apply. Members who have or will be graduating during the 2020 spring semester are also eligible to apply.
The Internship will be remote. Hours will be flexible and will work around final exam and school schedules. On average, the intern should expect to work ten hours per week. In return, the intern will receive two stipends:
- The Dolly Parton Foundation will award a $750 per month stipend to the intern.
- An additional $800 stipend will be awarded by Sigma Tau Delta and distributed in $200 monthly installments, beginning late February 2021.
As part of the internship application members are required to watch the video “Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library on PBS News Hour” and then write a mock blog post for our website. In no more than 500 words answer the question, “What are the most important/significant ideas or elements of the PBS report?” Applicants must also be prepared to discuss why they are applying for this internship and how it will benefit their career objectives.
The application deadline is Monday, November 30, 2020, 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST). Questions regarding the online submission process should be addressed to [email protected].
Stay tuned for additional developments in our growing partnership with the Imagination Library. Help us help Dolly inspire kids to love to read.
