Chapter Advisors, thank you for your continued dedication to fostering academic excellence through Sigma Tau Delta on your campus. To ensure the Society remains strong and continues to provide valuable opportunities for students for years to come, the Board periodically reviews our financial structure to align with current operational needs.
The one-time, lifetime new student membership fee of $45 was set in 2018. Adjusting for inflation, this would be $57.67 today. Because our expenses have risen over this time, the Society is effectively losing over $100,000 per year due to inflation.
To address this and ensure the Society’s continued financial health, the Sigma Tau Delta Board of Directors recently voted to increase the one-time, lifetime new student membership fee to $60. This amount covers the current inflation gap and provides a modest buffer for stability. This change will take effect on July 1, 2025. This fee increase will have no impact on current members of Sigma Tau Delta.
The Board recognizes that this may present a hardship to students who are dealing with the same challenging economic conditions as we are. For this reason, students who are eligible to receive a Pell Grant can apply for a fee reduction to pay the current $45 membership fee. We will add a form to Write Away that will allow Advisors to apply for fee reductions for all eligible students.
