Meet Shannin Schroeder

Shannin Schroeder is a professor and director of the Writing Center at Southern Arkansas University and serves as Secretary/Treasurer on the Sigma Tau Delta Board. She teaches world literature and creative writing, and her areas of scholarly interest center around magical realism. She co-authored a YA novel with former Board member Kevin Stemmler, as well as writing a YA novel set in the Frankenstein universe (hence the Outer Hebrides, below, where Victor creates and then destroys his Creature’s mate).

6. The best gift I’ve ever received was a replica of the grape soda pin Carl gives Ellie in the movie Up. Best anniversary present ever.
7. My nickname in high school was: No nickname, but my license plate said “WITHANI” because I always introduced myself as “Shannin with an ‘i'”.
8. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, bless it, you think I cook.
9. I’m both a reader and a writer.
10. The best paper title I ever created was “A Kate by Any Other Name Would Yell So Sweet.”
11. The literary place I’d most like to visit is Outer Hebrides off Scotland.
12. My dream job is: Do I get bonus points for saying serving on an international honor society board?

14. My go-to children’s book is Counting Crocodiles, by Judy Sierra.
15. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is New Zealand.
16. My favorite part of being an English Major is working as part of a community of readers and writers.

18. My favorite book is Beloved, by Toni Morrison.
19. My favorite place to buy books is Powell’s Books in Portland, OR.
20. In 10 years, I’m betting that the big trend in literature will be interactive digital graphic novels.
21. My first job was as an at my mom’s restaurant.
22. The last book I bought was The Mysterious Stranger, by Mark Twain (for a book club), but I have not yet read it.
23. The celebrity I’d most like to spend a day with is Ryan Reynolds.
