Meet the Deltans

Meet Emily Palmisano

Emily Palmisano (they/them) is the Associate Student Representative for the Midwest Region. They are in their senior year at the University of Evansville, majoring in literature and minoring in British Studies, Spanish, and Gender/Women’s/Sexuality Studies. They hope their answers give a good perspective on what their therapy sessions normally look like 🙂 If that’s not enough, they generally study the creation of the self and body studies.

  1. I chose to become an English Major because  it’s the best way to continue my love of language. I came into college planning to teach college, so the major made sense, but it’s given me more opportunities than I ever expected.
  2. My favorite part of being an English Major is the universe of options that I’ve been presented with. I could work in communications, editing, publishing, teaching, public relations… endless possibilities!
  3. The last book I read was Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann.
  4. My favorite book is In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado.

  5. A book character I identify with is Harrow Nonagesimus from Gideon the Ninth by Tasmyn Muir.
  6. The last book I bought was Teaching White Supremacy: America’s Democratic Ordeal and the Forging of Our National Identity by Donald Yacovone, but I have not read it yet.
  7. My favorite book to movie adaptation is The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith.
  8. I’m both a reader and a writer.
  9. My favorite style of writing is academic! I love to pull a difficult contradiction out of a piece.
  10. My go-to children’s book is Go to Sleep, Gecko! by Margaret Read MacDonald.
  11. My favorite childhood memory is getting a new book immediately before a road trip to the zoo.
  12. Growing up, I was sure I would be a writer.
  13. My first job was babysitting, then tutoring.
  14. My dream job is a reference in someone’s “further reading.
  15. I like to spend my free time watching video essays, frequenting coffee shops, gardening, and petting as many dogs as humanly possible.
  16. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is Venice.
  17. The literary place I’d most like to visit is San Sebastian, Spain. The Best Things to Do in San Sebastián | Condé Nast Traveler
  18. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in Chicago.
  19. If I was stranded on a desert island, the three things I would bring with me are my latest crochet project, a way to listen to American Idiot, and all about love by bell hooks.
  20. The one song I could listen to on repeat is GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE” by The Narcissist Cookbook.
  21. The best gift I ever received was a pair of earrings from my next-door neighbor, now best friend and roommate. They were really the start of the whole relationship.
  22. The best gift I’ve ever given is a collage of my dad’s Facebook posts about parenting.
  23. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up some kind of potatoes.
  24. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be whatever Esther eats in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath after the fig metaphor: “I don’t know what I ate, but I felt immensely better after the first mouthful.”
  25. The author (dead or alive) I’d most like to spend a day with is bell hooks, absolutely.
One of the best Christmases Emily ever had.
