Last month Better World Books (BWB) issued a challenge to Sigma Tau Delta: if 13 more chapters would commit to running a fall book drive by Thanksgiving, BWB would randomly select one of those chapters to receive a basket of leadership books. We met that challenge last week, and today we are happy to announce the winner: Kappa Omega Chapter at John Brown University, Siloam Springs, AR.
Fall Campus Book Drive
There is still PLENTY of time to start a drive. In fact, the end of the semester is one of the best times of the year to host one. Follow these tips for a quick and easy last minute blitz:
- Place collection bins outside of bookstores during buyback week. Of course you’ll need permission, but many stores are willing. Some bookstores, such as those operated by Follett, will even partner with chapters and allow bins inside their stores. It never hurts to ask, and these bins alone can bring in hundreds of books.
- Place bins in or near dorms and faculty office areas to make it easy for people to donate while cleaning out their spaces.
- Ask school administration for a list of faculty members that are retiring or moving offices, and contact those faculty directly with an offer to help clean and pack. Professors accumulate a tremendous number of books over the years and are often eager to give them away instead of moving them.
Every accepted book earns $1 for your chapter AND a portion of the proceeds is donated to a literacy partner of your choice. Contact [email protected] today to start a drive!
2013 Summer Internship
If that’s not enough incentive to start a drive, remember that you have to have participated in a BWB campus book drive to apply for Better World Books’ awesome Sigma Tau Delta exclusive summer internship! This unique internship is customized to the needs and interests of the winner, and past recipients all agree it is a rich and rewarding experience.
