Meet the Deltans

Meet Sophia Jockell

Sophia is thrilled to be the Southern Region Student Representative this year! She has been an official member of Sigma Tau Delta since fall of 2022, but became a probationary member with her local chapter (Alpha Upsilon Phi) in the spring of 2022. Sophia jumped head-first into the society and became her chapter’s Secretary for the 22-23 year, and then President of her chapter for the 23-24 year. As a senior at the University of North Georgia, she works as a Social Media Marketing Assistant for Supplemental Instruction. Sophia is so excited for the next year of Sigma Tau Delta!

  1. I chose to become an English Major because of an early love for reading and writing. Also, seeing my mom complete her English degree as a non-traditional student.
  2. My favorite part of being an English Major is connecting with others who love literature like I do! It’s so much fun to meet other people who share a passion for English and to learn even more about the subject!
  3. The last book I read was What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher.

  6. My favorite book to movie adaptation is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
  7. I’m both a reader and a writer.
  8. My favorite style of writing is creative writing.
  9. My go-to children’s book is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.
  10. My favorite childhood memory is reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle out loud with my mom and listening to my dad read Shel Silverstein poetry before bed.
  11. Growing up, I was sure I would be a medical examiner.
  12. My first job was as an assistant ballet teacher.
  13. My dream job is as a technical writer for a PR/Marketing firm.

  20. The best gift I ever received was every one of them; I’m very sentimental.
  21. The best gift I’ve ever given is definitely a faux terrarium I made for my husband. It’s Dagobah themed (Star Wars) and features Luke, Yoda, Darth Vader, and R2-D2.
  22. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up chocolate chip cookies.
  23. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be Mam’s red velvet cake from Sing Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward.
