Meet the Deltans

Meet Lexey Bartlett

Dr. Lexey Bartlett is the Chapter Advisor for Fort Hays State University, where she is an Associate Professor of English and Sigma Tau Delta’s current Vice President/President Elect. She can usually be found with her nose in a mystery. . . or a long Victorian novel. . . or a work of fantasy. . . or any book, really.

  1. I chose to become an English Major because it seemed to me that literature allows us the best space to contemplate the fundamental question of what it means to be a human being.
  2. My favorite part of being an English Major is reading and talking about books with other readers.
  3. The last book I read was Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.
  4. My favorite book is Middlemarch by George Eliot.
  5. A book character I identify with is Daisy from Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman—Evildoers beware!
  6. The last book I bought was Shine Bright: A Very Personal History of Black Women in Pop by Danyel Smith, but I have not read it yet.
  7. My favorite book to movie adaptation is Little Women (2019) directed by Greta Gerwig or Emma (2020) directed by Autumn de Wilde.
  8. I’m more of a reader than a writer.
  9. My favorite style of writing depends on whether I’m reading or writing.
  10. My go-to children’s book is Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne.
  11. My favorite childhood memory is being in the kitchen with my mother.
  12. Growing up, I was sure I would be a forest ranger.
  13. My first job was as workin’ the drive-thru at Taco Bell!
  14. My dream job is probably being an English professor . . . guess I’m lucky!
  15. I like to spend my free time stand-up paddleboarding or walking in nature. . . if I’m not reading.
  16. The destination at the top of my travel bucket list is New Zealand.
  17. The literary place I’d most like to visit is London. . . again.
  18. If I could move anywhere in the world, I’d live in the Lake District in the UK.
  19. If I was stranded on a desert island, the three things I would bring with me are a sheet of plastic, a knife, and an umbrella.
  20. The one song I could listen to on repeat is Symphony No. 4 by Johannes Brahms.
  21. The best gift I ever received was The Chronicles of Narnia box set.
  22. The best gift I’ve ever given is a copy (in like-new condition) of the edition of the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook that my mom had worn out over the years.
  23. If you find me in the kitchen, I’m typically whipping up soup or one-pot pasta.
  24. If I could try any food from a book or series, it would be whatever Aunt Beast feeds Meg in A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle.
  25. The author (dead or alive) I’d most like to spend a day with is Angie Thomas.
