By popular demand, we are giving everyone an extra week for the first book of our Summer Book Club! Discussion of the 2013 Common Reader, Anne Fadiman’s Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader, is just now getting underway in the discussion forums. There is still plenty of time to join in, so pick up your copy of Ex Libris at your local library today! And don’t forget to suggest a question for Anne Fadiman herself!
Chapters that organize and host an event or activity around the common reader can apply for one of the Regent’s Common Reader Awards, and prizes of up to $500 are presented to the best critical or creative papers presented at the convention that deal with the common reader. The Summer Book Club will feature discussions of how to win these awards, including insider tips from the 2013 Convention Chair, Gloria Hochstein.
Discussion of our second selection, The Wild Girls by Ursula Le Guin, begins June 11, and our third selection, The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan, begins July 9. Fadiman, Le Guin and Egan will all be featured presenters at the 2013 Sigma Tau Delta International Convention in Portland, OR.
