Downtown Savannah has a number of wonderful restaurants for convention attendees to choose from. As a general rule food gets cheaper as you head inland from the river, though there are several affordable options close to the hotel. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of Savannah’s free downtown transportation system in order to explore beyond the pricier tourist areas. Make sure to check out the “Eat Smart” suggestions at the bottom of the convention funding page for ideas on how to make the most out of your food budget. Don’t rely on search engines and online maps to learn about your options, as most are incomplete. Ask the hotel concierge for recommendations and directions if you have a particular restaurant or cuisine in mind.
Featured Recommendations–All of these locations were tried and personally recommended by Board members after their visit to the convention location last September. All are affordable, tasty, and a reasonable walking distance from the hotel.

The Pirates’ House
Southern Food, $$-$$$, 3 minute walk
This historic Savannah landmark was a real hangout for pirates. Colorful hosts in period costume visit the tables to share the history of the building and answer questions about Savannah’s swashbuckling past. Located right around the corner from the hotel and full of interesting history, this Board favorite boasts a large and varied menu of southern favorites, and is spacious enough to accommodate groups large and small. Prices can run a bit on the higher side but there are many affordable options, particularly at lunch. Everything Board members tried was delicious, and portions were large.
Ta Ca Sushi
Japanese/Sushi, $$-$$$, 10 minute walk
While there are a number of wonderful seafood options in Savannah, Ta Ca won us over with their inviting atmosphere, generous portions, wide selection, stunning presentation, and reasonable prices. They have also agreed to offer a discount to our attendees! Check your convention program for more information.
Moon River Brewing Company
Burgers/Bar Food, $-$$$, 12 minute walk
This supposedly haunted restaurant & brewery was fun and surprisingly affordable. It is a great choice for large groups with a spacious dining room and a menu that has something for everyone, from super affordable sandwiches and grass-fed burgers to decadent filet mignon and local seafood.
PJ’s Thai
Thai, $-$$, 15 minute walk
This affordable Thai restaurant was a hit with the Board for it’s fast service, great “fill-to-price ratio,” and numerous vegetarian options. Their “to go” options make them a great alternative to sit-down restaurants or standard fast food fare.
One Eyed Lizzy’s
Southwestern & Seafood, $$-$$$, 6 minute walk
This casual southwestern eatery is a great option for a quick meal, even for large groups. Located just a few minutes from the hotel along scenic River Street, One Eyed Lizzy’s has affordable options for both lunch and dinner and is a convenient place to grab a bite before heading out on the town or rushing back for the next paper session.
B Matthew’s Eatery
New American Bistro, $$-$$$, 7 minute walk
This self-described “one-of-a-kind bistro” features seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients and interesting twists on traditional bistro and deli favorites. Quite affordable for breakfast, brunch and lunch, the menu does get significantly more expensive at dinner time.
Leopold’s Ice Cream
Sandwiches & Ice Cream, $-$$, 11 minute walk
Featuring sandwiches, salads, and soups in addition to their famous ice cream and fountain creations, Leopold’s is a Savannah institution and a must-try location for lunch or a frozen treat. Incredibly popular, especially on a warm day, Leopold’s may not be the fastest option in town, but picking up some ice cream and making the short walk over to one of Savannah’s nearby historic squares is the perfect way to pause and regroup during the intense flurry of convention activity.
